By replacing EPS foam with a long-lasting, reusable solution,\u00a0JD and Sons\u00a0is reducing their environmental impact without sacrificing proper insulation\u00a0or\u00a0their bottom line.\u00a0\u00a0This change has gone into effect in\u00a0their salmon supply chain,\u00a0replacing two foam box types with the Seafood 6419.\u00a0Tosca RPCs\u00a0are\u00a0now shipping several salmon SKUs including whole Atlantic Salmon, 10 lb. Atlantic Salmon, Salmon Fillet D-trim, Atlantic Salmon Fillets\u00a0and\u00a0Atlantic Salmon 6oz.\u00a0portions\u00a0from\u00a0JD and Sons\u00a0into a major northeastern retailer.\u00a0This represents\u00a0a huge\u00a0diversion of\u00a0foam\u00a0from landfills,\u00a0including\u00a0about 71,379 cubic feet of foam in\u00a0just\u00a02020.\u00a0<\/p>    <p>Ilias\u00a0Diakomihalis, Owner and President of\u00a0JD and Sons,\u00a0is\u00a0happy to see a more sustainable packaging solution in his supply chain. \u201cFoam\u00a0has been the industry\u00a0standard for so long. It is exciting to finally be able to ship product in a container that is better for the environment while\u00a0maintaining the quality of our products\u00a0at a lower cost.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>    <p>Foam\u00a0is commonly used in seafood supply chains for its insulating properties. Unfortunately,\u00a0foam is damaging to the environment, breaking down into microplastics at the end of its life.\u00a0Foam\u00a0is also difficult to dispose of, wasting land resources in landfills\u00a0while\u00a0being\u00a0difficult and\u00a0costly\u00a0to recycle.<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a>\u00a0Tosca\u2019s seafood RPCs are\u00a0more sustainable than foam\u00a0because they are\u00a0reusable for hundreds of uses, and when they reach the end of their life, the food grade polypropylene they are\u00a0made of\u00a0is recycled to create\u00a0new RPCs.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>    <p>Jon Kalin, Chief Commercial Officer at Tosca, is\u00a0excited\u00a0to see RPCs adopted in the seafood supply chain. \u201cWe have known\u00a0about the environmental benefits of RPCs\u00a0for a while, servicing perishable supply chains such as produce,\u00a0meat, and eggs\u00a0for many years.
