Fiordelisi is a long established Italian specialist in sun dried and semi dried vegetables, managing high seasonal volumes of sun dried tomatoes across multiple sites in southern Italy.
The company previously relied on traditional stackable plastic crates to move products between locations and transport finished goods. While reliable, these crates occupied significant space when empty and limited how much product could be loaded onto each truck. This created inefficiencies in storage, handling and transport, affecting both operational costs and environmental performance.
To address these challenges, Fiordelisi introduced Tosca’s reusable Active Lock folding crates. Designed for durability and repeated use, the crates fold flat when empty, significantly reducing the space required for storage and internal movements.
This made them particularly well suited to Fiordelisi’s logistics flows, where space optimisation, consistency and reliability are essential across a multi site operation.
The switch delivered immediate improvements across operations. Empty crates now require 20 percent of the previous storage space, improving warehouse capacity and reducing handling.
Outbound transport efficiency also increased significantly. Fiordelisi can now load 560 additional filled crates per truck, enabling more than one extra tonne of product to be transported per journey. This reduces the number of trips required, cutting associated emissions while improving cost efficiency.
“Being able to send over a tonne more product on the same truck makes our transport more efficient and more sustainable. We reduce the number of journeys and the emissions linked to them,” Fiordelisi said.
By transporting more product in the same space, Fiordelisi has strengthened both operational efficiency and sustainability performance. Tosca’s reusable pooling model supports the company’s wider environmental objectives by reducing waste and helping prepare for future regulatory requirements.
